KP Event Catering Services recognises that as Event Caterers our work does have both a direct and indirect impact on the local, regional and global environment.
We are committed to minimising our negative impacts and by acting in a sustainable way, meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. We hope that by minimising our carbon footprint we encourage our customers to do so as well.
Although at KP Event Catering Services we do not see it as our place to lecture clients on being ‘green’, we do believe that we can have a significant role to play in raising awareness of green alternatives and helping our clients to achieve their own green policies.
Our Green policy is to constantly look for ways in which we can improve our Green credentials.
Our Green strategy is aligned with our environment policy and catering codes of practice on waste and environment protection. We focus on:
- Using biodegradable products cups/ trays etc
- Using recycled paper i.e. serviettes disposable hand towels
- Reducing waste
- Reusing materials at every opportunity
- We cook with LPG which has a smaller foot print than electricity
- Repair, rather then throw away, where we can
- All our used cooking oil is taken from our depot and turned in to bio fuel
As our Green culture becomes established and embedded, we aim to:
- Encourage our staff to be responsible Green citizens
- Consider environmental impacts in our purchasing
- Endeavour to work with partner organisations that share our Green values
It is our intention to operate our business in an as environmentally friendly way as we can.
What we have already done..:
- Generators are to power more than one catering unit if at all possible cutting down on emissions & fuelWe reuse, or recycle, all of our incoming packaging materials like cardboard
- We minimise our use of paper. Key information about KP Event Catering Services is readily available on this site. The increasing use of e-mail greatly reduces the amount of paper used in hard-copy correspondence, envelopes and letters. Processing information electronically is also much more energy and carbon efficient than physically sending a hard copy.
- Fax machines are turned off, and only turned on when we are expecting a fax as we get many rubbish faxes!
- Our consumption of fuel and energy is closely monitored and we take care that it is not wasted through inefficiency or casualness. For example, we use signage to remind staff to turn off lights when leaving a room, and ask staff to use computers responsibly i.e. turning them off at night and using the stand-by mode during the day.
- Where possible we will choose to source our materials from suppliers who operate in an environmentally friendly manner and who are geographically local to us to reduce delivery miles.
- We aim to serve Fair Trade hot drinks in our Catering units
- We will work with our catering suppliers to buy locally where possible in order to reduce our food miles and to promote British produces
- We will chose our vehicles with fuel efficiency in mind and their fuel consumption is closely monitored
